An Alabama family has been left heartbroken by the shocking suicide death of a 9-year-old elementary schooler.
McKenzie Adams died on Dec. 3 after she was allegedly bullied by fellow students at U.S. Jones Elementary School in Demopolis. The fourth grader was reportedly found after she hung herself at home. Her family has spoken out to multiple media outlets, sharing that McKenzie was taunted by her peers for being friends with a white boy.
Demopolis City Schools Board Attorney Alex Brasswell addressed the death in a statement provided to Fox News.
“In response to the recent tragic loss of a Demopolis City School System student, The Demopolis City School System does extend its heartfelt wishes and condolences to the family, friends, students and teachers that have been affected,” the statement said. “We have concluded our internal investigation to the allegations of bullying which led to this senseless death. There have been no findings of any reports of bullying by either the student or family. The findings of this internal investigation are consistent with the results of the investigation of the Linden (Alabama) Police Department at this point in time. The Linden Police Department investigation is still pending. All further results will be disseminated as they become available. The Demopolis City School System will continue to have grief counselors, crisis counselors and mental health professionals available to all of our students and teachers.”
