Officials with Grand Canyon National Park are in the process of lifting water restrictions.
Crews recently completed repairs to the pump that carries water to the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. Now, as water levels continue to rise in storage tanks, the restrictions will be eased until operations return to normal.
Under the restrictions, residents and visitors alike were asked to cut back on their water consumption by minimizing toilet flushing and keeping their showers short. Local businesses were using disposable dishes instead of washing plates and cups, and serving water only when requested.
Following the repairs, drinking water will now be available at Supai Tunnel on the North Kaibab Trail. Officials still encourage any and all hikers to carry water with them. The repairs did not affect water supply to the busier South Rim.
