Pima County is in need of volunteers to assist with it’s annual homeless count.
The 2017 tally is set for this Wednesday, January 25.
This effort to obtain an accurate head count of the homeless population helps the local programs and organizations that provide shelter, food and warmth for those without a home.
15 percent of Arizona’s homeless population is found in Pima County, with a reported 1,762 people counted during last year’s tally. Of those, 333 were victims of domestic abuse and 211 were chronically homeless.
The annual count is required by public policy, but it can be difficult to obtain a completely accurate picture of overall homelessness, as the numbers and situations can fluctuate every day.
You can register to help on the The Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness website. Volunteers will assist with logistics, date entry or interviewing people.
