A local Arizona girl is receiving national attention after her stunning performance on a top reality show.
Thirteen-year-old Evie Clair took to the stage on America’s Got Talent, bravely performing Christina Perri’s song “Arms” in honor of her father.
Before she started singing, the young girl informed judges through her tears that the song was for her father, who is battling stage 4 cancer. She told notoriously aloof judge Simon Cowell and the millions of viewers watching that her beloved dad had been given a 5 percent chance to live. Then the Florence native delivered a heartwarming rendition of the pop song, with her father watching from just around the corner.
Evie shared that the song is especially special to her, because she sings it to her father on “rough days” during his year-long battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer.
Clair charmed the judges with her sweet references to her hometown and her very obvious admiration of her father.
“He continued working and supporting our family,” Clair told the judges panel. “I sing him this song to make him feel better and give him comfort and strength to continue fighting.”
She was momentarily overcome by tears, but she took a moment to gather herself before belting out the ballad.
She received a standing ovation and four “yeses,” advancing her to the next round in the competition.
“I felt like America and everybody here at AGT wants to take our arms and wrap them around you and tell you ‘you are home,'” Judge Howie Mandel told the girl after her performance. Even Simon Cowell had nice things to say, praising Evie for her bravery and talent. “You’re one of the ones we’re gonna remember.”
