The Arizona Wildcats successful 2017 season came to a close Sunday as they suffered a loss eliminating them from the playoffs.
In Sunday’s game against the Sam Houston State Bearkats, starting pitcher Cody Deason struggled, allowing seven runs in just over an inning. Arizona couldn’t recover from the Bearkats’ eight-run second inning, leading to a disappointing loss, with a final score of 9-3 in favor of Sam Houston.
Wildcats Cesar Salazar and Louis Boyd each had two hits for Arizona, which held a 38-21 record on the season. Last year, the Wildcats reached the national championship before losing to Coastal Carolina in three games.
Prior to Sunday’s contest, the Wildcats were 7-1 in elimination games over the past two seasons. With their postseason run cut short, the team looks ahead to the future and plans for next year.
