Tempe Elementary School District is excited to announce that two Broadmor Elementary School alums are headed to the 2016 Summer Olympics! Pau Tonnesen will be competing in the decathlon for Spain (his mother’s home country) and Sam Dorman will be competing in diving for the U.S.A. Retired Broadmor teacher Susan Ashcraft had both students in her 1999-2000 first and second-grade combo class. “Pau was a very strong student, and an amazing artist, as well. Sam was also an excellent student, very curious, gregarious, and enthusiastic,” said Ashcraft. “I had many good years teaching at Broadmor, and that was one of them.” The Dorman family has strong roots at TD3. Paul Dorman, Sam Dorman’s father, recently retired as a physical education teacher at Gililland Middle School after eighteen years with the District.
The 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 5-21. Dorman is expected to compete on Wednesday, August 10 and Tonnesen is expected to compete on Thursday, August 18.
