A Pima County Judge handed down a life sentence last month for a Tucson man who sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend and murdered her new boyfriend.
According to the Pima County Superior Court, Steven Leska was sentenced on Monday, May 14 for the disturbing and deadly February 2016 incident. Last month, he was found guilty on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, sexual abuse, aggravated assault and burglary.
Officials say the 48-year-old man forced his way into a home and violently attacked his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, James Kozar III, who died at the scene from his injuries. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says the victim told detectives a neighbour heard the noise and distracted Leska, giving her enough time to escape.
The victim’s statements to investigators revealed Leska started harassing and stalking her and her family after a bitter breakup. The victim said she requested and received a protection order against Leska.
