Right on the corner of Mott & Prince Street beholds a cute little neon sign hanging from a white building with pastries in the windows with the words “Little Cupcake Bakeshop” and that is exactly what it entails. When you walk in the door, you are welcomed with small circular tables, an ice cream cart, and a case of goodies. The smell itself is a way to entice you into the building but the charm of the interior and exterior really get you as well. I think of this place as a necessary pit stop on the way to wherever you are going- you don’t technically need it but if you do it will make your day just that much better.
Inside this adorable bakeshop, you will see a range of options to choose from which benefits all types of cravings. You can walk in and get anything from coffee to ice cream to pies- so pick wisely! Regardless, you can’t go wrong with your selection as everything is quite tasty and very reasonably priced.
That said, here is a breakdown of my favorites and not-so-favorites that you can order:
Banana Pudding: always a must- especially in NYC! Here it comes in a huge plastic bowl and layered with vanilla wafers. It’s quite rich and somewhat thick so if you aren’t into dense banana pudding, I would go for something else. For those that do though, I would recommend it! The flavoring is not too powerful and its the perfect amount needed for an afternoon snack.
Good Humor Strawberry Cupcake: If you like strawberries then this is the cupcake for you! It basically tastes like a cake-version of the strawberry shortcake popsicles you would get from the ice cream truck after the beach when you were a kid. The top has a shortbread crumble on it, and the frosting pairs well with the cake underneath to create a delicious bite.
Smores Bar: I could have gone without ordering this truthfully- and that is a lot coming from a smores lover! The bar was tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary and the cracker had more of a dominance than the marshmallow and chocolate, so sadly it was quite dry. I would say that this is an item that I am glad I tried but can go without ordering again in the future.
Cookie Dough Cupcake: This is another thing I can go without ordering next time I visit the shop (which is quite frequently). The cupcake, as I was told, is supposed to have cookie dough in the middle but there didn’t seem to be any when I took a bite. The cupcake is quite dense and doesn’t have much of a “cookie dough” flavor, more of a vanilla cake with chocolate chips and chocolate and vanilla swirl frosting. If I had to redo this again, I would have gotten the chocolate ganache with vanilla cake since it would seem about the same.
Overall, there are many flavors, varieties, and treats in your future if you visit this cute spot in NoLita so don’t stray away!
