Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital Celebrates 72 Years of Providing Quality, Patient-Focused Care

Tempe, Arizona
By Mikaela Hudson

A gallon of milk cost 62 cents, a house went for $8,600, Casablanca won the Academy Award for Best Picture…and a small hospital in downtown Tempe opened its doors to care for a burgeoning desert community.

On March 2, Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital will celebrate its 72nd anniversary of providing community-focused, patient-centric health care.

In honor of the hospital’s anniversary, Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital employees will volunteer their time and give back to the community through Tempe Cares, a Tempe Leadership program, on Saturday, March 5.

Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital employees will roll up their sleeves and help beautify the Community Garden at Clark Park and Childsplay in Tempe. At the Community Garden, volunteers will build raised, handicap-accessible garden beds, ground beds, and grape vine trellises. At Childsplay, volunteers will paint, organize, clean and work on landscaping projects.

WHEN:
Saturday, March 5, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

WHERE:
Community Garden at Clark Park, 1730 S. Roosevelt Street, Tempe 85281

WHY:
The spirit of giving back is strong at Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital. Although the little 10-bed Tempe Clinic Hospital grew into a leading 87-bed facility offering a wide range of health care services, from emergency and intensive care support to ophthalmology, orthopaedics and bariatrics, it never lost sight of the need to serve its community.

The hospital continues to evolve to better serve the growing community and is in the middle of a multi-phase renovation. Currently, the hospitals’ main corridor, café and physician lounge are under renovation, while the next phases will include the Obstetrics/Women’s Health Department and the Emergency Room. Most recently, it opened a newly-remodeled medical/surgical floor with 27 private beds.
