Tempe, AZ
Long-time Tempe resident, community leader and Tempe Councilmember Lauren Kuby has endorsed the Clean Elections Team in Legislative District 26: Juan Mendez for State Senate, Athena Salman and Isela Blanc for House of Representatives.
Councilmember Kuby has been at the forefront at fighting for social justice and sustainability locally. She understands first-hand the negative influence of outside special interests in advancing these goals.
“Juan, Athena, and Isela have consistently fought for local measures to improve the quality of life in Tempe, including supporting Earned Sick Days, whether city- or state-wide,” Kuby said.
In years past, District 26 legislators have rejected privatizing their campaigns, according to Kuby. “Representative Mendez has served our district for four years and continues to turn down big donors and lobbyist money. His commitment to voters to run clean is a value that our community shares, understands, and appreciates.”
“Lauren is a champion for education, workers protections, and the clean-energy economy. It is an honor to have her support,” Salman said.
Mendez echoed Salman. “I remember a decade ago working alongside Lauren to help turn the district blue when the original Democratic clean-elections slate won their election. It is a privilege to have her endorsement.”
“Having grown up in Tempe, I am humbled to have Lauren’s support. She knows that we are the strongest candidates that will fight for the public interest,” Blanc stated.
“We haven’t had a legislative primary in this district since 2006. This people-powered team has been registering voters and supporting many other candidates up and down the ballot, ” said Kuby. “Juan, Athena, and Isela represent the heart, soul, and smarts of our district and I’m proud of the positive energetic campaign they have run.”
The Primary Election is on Tuesday, August 30th, with early ballots landing in mailboxes on Thursday, August 4.
