to Address Community

August 18, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Tempe’s new Chief of Police Sylvia Moir will speak to the public about her experiences, goals and plans for the city at a luncheon on Thursday, August 18th.

Chief Moir will share how her 28 years of police work provided her with a comprehensive perspective on the rewards and challenges of modern policing in integrated and progressive communities. She’ll discuss the most current trends and issues facing Tempe, and how she plans to solve these problems.

Before joining Tempe Police, Chief Moir strengthened the tactical and operational readiness of the El Cerrito, California police department, enhanced training efforts to include Fair and Impartial Policing, and launched intelligence and analytic functions for crime suppression.

She holds a BS degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, and an MS from the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security.

Thursday’s event, held at the Downtown Tempe Residence Inn, will include a discussion on policing practices in progressive communities, current trends and her vision for the future, as well as an audience Q&A. Lunch will be provided.
