Surprise Announces Lunchtime Theatre Series Lineup

Jazz, Opera, Broadway and the Classics highlight the line-up for Surprise’s Lunchtime Theatre Series this season, according to a news release.

The performances are the culmination of a collaboration between The City of Surprise Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission, the West Valley Arts Council, Theater Works, the West Valley Symphony and the Phoenix Opera.

The following performances will be presented in this year’s Lunchtime Theatre Series:

GYPSY – September 14, 2017 Gypsy tells the story of the dreams and efforts of one hungry woman to get her two daughters into show business. This musical has earned “Rose” a place in theatrical history as the archetypal stage mother.

LOS TRES TENORES – November 9, 2017 Phoenix Opera presents an exciting program featuring Italian Neapolitan favorites, Mariachi greats, Broadway ballads & more! Special time and location- 2 p.m. NW Regional Library, 16089 N Bullard Avenue (No lunch service at this event).

A CHRISTMAS CAROL – December 14, 2017 This is Charles Dickens’ well known holiday classic. Enjoy the ever popular characters of Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim brought to life in live theater. A wonderful holiday treat.

UNFORGETTABLE – January 18, 2018 Snap your fingers, tap your toes and experience the joys of Neapolitan Songs, Operetta, Broadway and Grand Opera with the Phoenix Opera.

JAM SESSION WITH MAESTRO CAL STEWART KELLOGG & FRIENDS – February 8, 2018 The Jazz World embraces spontaneous variations on given themes. The songs we play will last forever. Our improvisations last only in the moment they are created! Presented by the West Valley Symphony.

A CHORUS LINE – February 22, 2018 Celebrate the unsung heroes of musical theater, the chorus dancers. They are dedicated, underpaid and talented. The show is based on real life characters and dedicated to anyone who has ever danced from high school to Broadway.

FOREVER PLAID – April 5, 2018 One of the most popular musicals in recent memory. It is chock full of classic Barbershop and pitch perfect harmony. It is about four guys who shared their love of music and how their story ended and then began.

Each 45 – 50 minute performance begins at noon, at the Arts HQ, 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza. Please note that the November 9th performance begins at 2 p.m. and will be held at the Northwest Regional Library, 16089 N. Bullard Avenue.

You can bring your lunch or order lunch in advance for the shows located in the Arts HQ facility. To order, call City Café @ Surprise at 623.222.8900, and lunch will be waiting for you on the day of the performance. For menu options and pricing contact the café.
