The Coast Guard rescued an injured woman from a sailboat off the coast of California on Friday.
Crew members aboard the 54-foot Amazing Grace radioed Coast Guard Sector San Diego at 2:15 a.m. to report the woman had endured a head injury from the boat’s boom. The vessel was about 70 miles west of San Clemente Island at the time.
A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter flew from San Diego to the boat as a C-27 aircraft based at Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento also headed out to assist with radio coverage. Crews faced eight-foot-high waves and 10-knot winds as the Jayhawk arrived at 4:39 a.m., just in time to deploy a rescue diver to help the woman into a hoist basket.
Coast Guard crew members successfully got the woman aboard the aircraft and took her to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. For more information and updates, please visit the official website of the US Coast Guard HERE.
