Come and join us at the annual dog-friendly Spay Pride 5K Walk/Run held at Kiwanis Park (near the soccer fields) in Tempe, AZ on February 18, 2017, from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM MST! The term “Spay Pride” is obviously a catchy phrase intended to remind everyone that spaying and neutering our pets can make a serious dent in mitigating the homeless pet population overcrowding animal shelters. Spaying and neutering is only one part of the bigger solution.
The bigger solution must include (1) maintaining animal shelters which act as a temporary bridge to transition unwanted animals to forever homes, animal rescues and other organizations, (2) supporting specialty organizations that utilize shelter animals for therapy and medical assist programs, and (3) utilizing pet behaviorists who teach us (the public and local rescues) how to communicate limits of acceptable behavior with our pets so that the pets stay in our homes and don’t end up in shelters.
The day will be filled with activities that include:
- Browing through the vendor village while listening to music from our DJ,
- Exhibitions from Spring the Arson Dog, the City of Tempe K-9 Unit, Phoenix Area Disc Dogs and expert trainers from JD’s Powerhouse K-9 Bootcamp and Paws 4 Life,
- Many activities for the kids like face painting, as well as the opportunity to meet famous children’s author Barbara Titus who will be available to sign her latest book, and
- Free kisses and nuzzles from our furry friends from the MASH Unit and Maricopa County Animal Care and Control available for adoption.
This year, Panacea has partnered with Companion Animal Rehabilitation Emergency Medical Fund (C.A.R.E. Medical Fund) which organization takes on severe medical cases of animals given shelter through Apache Junction Care and Control. This little shelter is the red-headed step child who gets very little support. Therefore all proceeds will be going directly to pay for the medical needs of animals within Panacea and CARE’s supervision.
Please help us make a difference by registering or donating for this very special event. Don’t worry if you or your furry friend aren’t able to participate in the walk/run, come out and join us to cheer on participants and shop with the vendors that will be supporting the event.
