Motorists in the Flagstaff area should be aware of several detours to start the week. The Arizona Department of Transportation has warned drivers of a few detours in the area as crews focus on repairing bridges on the Interstate-40/Interstate-17 interchange.
Starting Sunday, June 3, ADOT will close the northbound lanes of I-17 where it passes under I-40 from the hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures will continue through June 8 as crews set up support for the bridges. Drivers heading north on I-17 will need to take the I-40 exit east and turn around at the Butler Avenue exit on I-40 before going west to the Milton Road exit.
The following week, ADOT will shift focus toward the southbound lanes of I-17 under I-40. Starting June 10, these lanes will be closed every night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. until June 15.
This is all part of a $10 million repair project that encompasses new I-40 bridge decks in both directions over I-17 and Belulah Boulevard. The project will also fix drainage on the bridge decks and add new guardrails to the area.
