The body of a missing construction worker has been recovered.
Fire officials confirmed Thursday that crews had located the body of the victim, who had been missing since an accident at a construction site at Sky Harbor International Airport on Monday.
The accident occurred while construction workers were digging holes for the concrete columns that will support the Sky Train track linking Terminal 3 with the rental car area. It was a difficult task for recovery crews to locate the worker, as they had to combat unstable ground. Eventually, they brought in a truck with a vacuum to suck up more than 50 tons of dirt in order to locate the missing machinery operator.
Around noon on Thursday, crews said they had determined the “general location” of the worker, and by 6 p.m., firefighters had located the body and removed it from the hole.
