On Wednesday, September 28 at 6pm, RAILmesa, a community advocacy group, will host a community forum at Volstead Public House with Mayor John Giles and representatives from ASU. Question 1 is a proposed 4/10ths of a penny increase in the City’s sales tax to support Safety (Fire and Police) and Higher Education (ASU, Benedictine University, and the Mesa Center for Higher Education) that be presented to Mesa voters this November.
At the forum, the Mayor will give an overview of the proposal and answer both prepared questions and questions from the public present. In preparation, RAILmesa is accepting questions in advance through an online survey available here: Survey Mesa Question 1: Police,Fire, & Higher Education.
The event is free and open to the public. Don’t miss this conversation to make an informed decision in November. You can find out more about the event, and RSVP, at the Facebook event page here.
RAILmesa is a neighborhood group that advocates for increased citizen participation, responsible development of housing, transit options and the creation of quality jobs along Mesa’s Light Rail Corridor. RAIL — Retail, Arts, Innovation, & Livability, began in 2012 with a group of residents, business owners, and elected officials interested and passionate about the future of Mesa’s downtown and light rail corridor. There was great worry that there was not a positive community voice to guide and support quality transit-oriented development. You can learn more about this community group at their website, railmesa.org or follow them on Facebook at fb.me/RAILdistrict.
