The Queen Creek Unified School District is proud to implement a new educational resource called AVID; this stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a college and career readiness system.
AVID impacts more than 800,000 students in 44 states and 16 other countries. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
QCUSD teachers are using the AVID resource schoolwide at all elementary schools. AVID elementary students are engaged in all levels of thinking and questioning. Students also utilize organizational tools, such as, a personal planner and binder. AVID strategies are also being used schoolwide as part of the rigorous curriculum at QCUSD middle schools. These strategies include critical thinking, higher level questioning and quality note taking.
“QCUSD is committed to providing high-quality education opportunities for our students. AVID is a great tool allowing teachers and staff to achieve this goal,” said QCUSD Superintendent Dr. Perry Berry.
