Police Investigating Deadly Hit-and-Run Outside Brooklyn Laundromat

NYPD officials are investigating a heartbreaking hit-and-run in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick.

The incident happened in front of a laundromat near Wyckoff Avenue and Hart Street on Sunday afternoon. A four-year-old girl was killed and her mother was injured.

According to the NYPD, the young girl had been riding her scooter nearby when she lost her shoe. Her mother was bending over to put the girl’s shoe back on when a woman behind the wheel of a black SUV backed out of a parking lot. Police say the driver apparently didn’t see the child or mother and struck them both.

Although witnesses rushed to help, the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Although the driver and two passengers left the scene, they were stopped just two blocks away. Investigators were looking at surveillance video in an attempt to determine if she realized she had hit them before leaving the scene.

Nearby residents have voiced their concerns about the laundromat’s parking lot because vehicles have no driveway access to the road, forcing them to drive unsafely onto the sidewalk to park their cars.

The investigation continues. For more information, please visit the official website of the NYPD here.
