International soloist Jeffrey Swann appears Sunday, Jan. 22, 2:30 p.m. on Hayden’s Ferry Chamber Music Series at Tempe Center for the Arts sponsored by Northern Trust.
A native of Northern Arizona, pianist Jeffrey Swann is the first prize winner of the Dino Ciani Competition sponsored by La Scala; gold medalist in the Queen Elisabeth Competition; winner of Young Concert Artists; and an international performer. He has played with major symphonies in the United States and around the world.
Swann moved to Texas at a young age and studied with Alexander Uninsky at Southern Methodist University and later with Beveridge Webster and Adele Marcus at The Juilliard School. He is currently on the piano faculty at New York University. Since 2007 he has been the Adel Artist-in-Resident at Northern Arizona University and participates in other international festivals. On Sunday’s program Swann will play a Faust-inspired program including the Schubert G Major Sonata.
“International stars and rising stars. This is the mix for the Hayden’s Ferry Chamber Music Series,” says Catherine Hayden, series artistic director. “From well-known masters like Swann we also like to identify the young musicians who will be the household names of tomorrow. Violinist Nikki Chooi, playing a recital on March 5th, stunned us with his appointment to concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra—shooting him to international attention.”
