Does Ordering a Credit Report Lower Your Score?

As soon as they order a credit report, consumers have 45 days to shop for a home loan and request multiple credit reports. FICO, the leading score provider and sole provider of scores for Fannie and Freddie, has done extensive research in order to develop this 45-day “shopping window.” Within this window, consumers can entertain multiple lenders for home, auto, and student loans with minimal impact on their score. All credit report inquiries within this window are treated as a single inquiry. After 45 days, requesting additional credit reports threatens to lower your credit score further.
