You may be asking yourself what does 911 have to do with Arizona? Like the rest of the world if you are over the age of thirty you remember exactly where you were and how you heard about the first plane hitting World Trade North at 8:46am, Eastern Time, on September 11th, 2001. The “older” generation tells us that the experience was similar to John F. Kennedy’s tragic and sudden death.
The bottom line is this was the last time we as a country have felt truly vulnerable. You pre thirty somethings may not want to hear it but another horrific event will happen it is just a question of when. No I am not a doomsayer but just realistic to the fact that like high school there are many people in the world that hate us for reasons that are irrational but can and will attack everything we hold dear.
No, it also does not help that we as a people, through our elected leaders, have decided to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. China and India have 2.6 Billion people compared to the US which has 321.4 Million citizens give or take the uncounted ones that work incredibly hard every day to make our lives more pleasant.
Perhaps some melancholily in this post but I want to end this on a positive note. America is a lot like Daniel Ruettiger (nicknamed “Rudy”) who, like me, had(s) Dyslexia and gets things messed up most of the time but has not given up hope on Democracy.
If you find your selves in New York City please visit the 911 Memorial Museum and to boost your spirits afterwords visit the observation deck on the 100th floor of the Freedom Tour.
