Nogales Border Patrol Station agents made a big arrest on Saturday, August 25th, taking a dangerous gang member into custody.
35-year-old Reyes Guzman-Umanzor, who has been deported previously and participates in violent crimes as a member of the dangerous MS-13 street gang, is an Honduras national. Officials say he re-entered the country illegally along with other aliens on Saturday evening.
Agents on patrol west of Nogales came across four illegal aliens from Honduras in a remote area, just after they illegally crossed the border in the desert. After their arrests, the individuals were taken to the Nogales Station for further processing. That’s when agents learned one of the men, Guzman-Umanzor, is part of MS-13 and has been deported from the U.S. in the past for immigration violations, stemming from DUI arrests and drug possession.
Guzman faces criminal prosecution for re-entry following removal, and he will remain behind bars pending legal disposition in his case. The three other illegal aliens arrested alongside Guzman all have previous immigration violations and deportations, so they will face additional charges as well.
All individuals apprehended by the Border Patrol are subjected to criminal history checks using biometrics to make sure illegal immigrants with criminal pasts are positively identified.
