A busy lunch hour at Wendy’s turned into a nightmare for diners when an SUV plowed into the crowded restaurant.
The accident occurred on Saturday around 1:40 p.m., at the Wendy’s off Montauk Highway in West Babylon, Long Island.
Eight people were hurt when an 87-year-old driver behind the wheel of a small, burgundy SUV reversed out of a Burger King parking lot across the highway and into the front of the Wendy’s restaurant.
As the lunch rush was winding down, the restaurant was filled with customers, including some children, and employees, when glass suddenly flew everywhere.
Panicked customers rushed to help others.
The driver and seven others with minor injuries were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.
Police say the driver may have suffered a medical emergency, and while the cause of the crash remains under investigation, no charges have been filed.
