Two Magazines Come Together for Capitalism Debate

Join in the conversation during an upcoming debate on capitalism and socialism.

On Friday, November 3, this debate between Reason and Jacobin magazines will take place at Cooper Union’s Historic Great Hall.

Michelle Goldberg, columnist for the New York Times, will moderate the conversation centered around this question: Is capitalism the best way to improve standards of living, ensure political and economic freedom, and provide opportunity? Could socialism do better?

Reason, the libertarian magazine of “Free Minds and Free Markets,” will have two speakers, including editor in chief Katherine Mangu-Ward and Nick Gillespie, editor in chief of and Reason TV.

On the other side is Jacobina leading voice of the American left, offering socialist perspectives on politics, economics, and culture. Speakers include Vivek Chibber, a professor of sociology at New York University and the co-editor of Catalyst: A Journal of Theory and Strategy, as well as founding editor and publisher Bhaskar Sunkara.

Tickets are $10 and available online on the official EventBrite page.

Cooper Union’s Historic Great Hall is located at 7 E. 7th Street in New York, New York.
