Heroes are people that appear at just the right time and do something not-so-ordinary that has an extraordinary impact.
Over the 2016 year-end holidays, instead of being concerned with his shop’s bottom line, Dave Martin, owner of Martin’s Auto Repair on 16th St at Clarendon in Phoenix, played the role of a hero in the lives of a single dad with three sons.
When Dave was made aware that a single parent family in the area had been struggling with employment due to implications of recovery from medical issues and a vehicle in need of repair, his community concern motivated the hero in him to use the skills and resources at his disposal to get the family back on the road… without cost.
“I do what I can- when I can, and usually once a year we like to do something that makes a significant difference to someone in need, ” said Dave, “it may be a customer who knows someone, or a neighbor. We care about our community and are involved in many ways from supporting charities like the Spina Bifida Association of AZ to neighborhood projects like the GAIN event promoted by the City of Phoenix.”
When Greg and his son took their car in to Martin’s they received a complete evaluation of the condition of the vehicle along with the itemization of repairs that were completed free of charge that day. NAPA, a company that Martin’s Auto Repair does a lot of business with, participated in the act of kindness by donating needed parts for the project.
“This kind of help is something I have never received, and it could not have come at a more critical time for us,” said Greg. “Thank you seems inadequate. I am so grateful for this.”
Martin’s Auto Repair services vehicles for commuters to downtown Phoenix and the central corridor, providing drop off and pick up convenience to make repairs as pain-free as possible.
