National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive – Saturday, May 13

The 25th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is set for Saturday, May 13. It is the largest one-day food drive in America, having collected more than 80 million pounds of non-perishable foods nationwide in 2016. All food collected stays in its local community.

United Food Bank (UFB), which serves people in need throughout the East Valley and eastern Arizona, receives Stamp Out Hunger donations made in its service areas. Last year, the Food Bank received more than 64,000 pounds of food from the drive, which translates into more than 53,000 meals.

“We can’t emphasize enough how important this food drive is to our food bank and the communities we serve,” said Dave Richins, UFB Interim CEO. “Summertime temperatures drive up utility costs for folks who are already on impossibly tight budgets. The dollars must come from somewhere, and usually it’s from their grocery budget. It’s vital that we stock our shelves now to meet the resulting need for added food assistance.”

Residents can place their non-perishable food donations by their mailboxes on Saturday, May 13 by 8 a.m. for their local carrier to pick up.

United Food Bank (UFB) works with 222 community partners to serve more than 228,000 Arizonans in need living in the East  Valley and eastern Arizona and is a member of the Feeding America network.
