Moviegoers and film fanatics can check out the Northern Arizona premiere of a visually spectacular and stunningly emotional drama tomorrow.
The Sedona International Film Festival presents “A Monster Calls” — starring Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson and Lewis MacDougall —on March 10 through March 13 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
“A Monster Calls” is based on the award-winning novel written by Patrick Ness, who also authored the screenplay adaptation.
The movie depicts twelve-year-old Conor O’Malley (Lewis MacDougall), who is about to escape into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales. He is dealing with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness, which has meant he spends a lot of time with his less-than-sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver). At his U.K. school, he suffers from academic disinterest and bullying, and the young impressionable boy yearns for guidance as his father makes a new life in the United States.
A 40-foot-high creature becomes his most unlikely ally after appearing at his bedroom window one night. Conor learns to listen to and powerfully visualize the monster’s stories, and the creature guides the young boy on a journey of courage, faith, and truth.
There will be showings at 4 and 7 p.m. on Monday, March 13th. Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org
