Mermaids are the legendary creatures of the sea we’ve grown to love in fairytales, but you don’t have to trek to the ocean to see sirens this weekend.
Return of the Mermaids is a kid-friendly monsoon celebration and mermaid parade in downtown Tucson’s historic 4th Avenue.
Mermaid enthusiasts are welcomed to dress up as sea critters as they listen to live music, play mer-games and even see a live mermaid during this all-day event Aug. 12.
The under-the-sea celebration kicks off with mermaid raffles starting at 10 a.m. at Antigone Books, followed by a pop-up mermaid art show at Pop-Cycle.
Other event highlights include a special mermaid edition of Tucson Improv Movement’s “Friends of Make Pretends” show, a costume contest, live music by the Surf Broads and a marketplace full of fun games, face-painters and more.
The little ones will love meeting live mermaids Michelina, Odette and Kailee before sporting their aquatic costumes in the 8 p.m. mermaid parade.
For a $5 cover charge, adult merfolk can take part in a 21+ after party at the Surly Wench Pub.
Tucson’s Return of the Mermaids schedule is packed full of fin-tastic activities for ocean-lovers of all ages. For more information, please visit ReturnOfTheMermaids.com.
