A local student has made a big impression in a national competition.
16-year-old Miriam Arden is a junior at Catalina Foothills High School, and she has reached the semi-final round of the National Shakespeare Competition. Held at New York’s Lincoln Center, this is an all expenses-paid trip to New York. The Tucson Branch of the English-Speaking Union sponsored the journey, providing an amazing opportunity for a bright student. The union aims to promote education through Shakespeare’s phenomenal works.
Arden participates in Carson Wright’s Drama program at Catalina Foothills, and she placed high in the semis, which included 55 entries.
This year marks the thirty-third annual competition for the Tucson Branch, which partners with the University of Arizona’s Shakespeare in the Schools program. 23 high schools across southern Arizona participated in this year’s program, running in-house competitions to name their winners. These students went on to represent in the Southern Arizona Regional Competition that took place in March.
