Local Food Bank Seeks Volunteer Drivers
Volunteers are needed for an important community cause.
Three thousand people in the North Valley rely on Foothills Food Bank to keep their families fed and put food on the table.
Dozens of area businesses donate crates of excess food every day, and it requires a team of sixty volunteer drivers to collect it all. Many of these much-needed drivers are snowbirds or part-time residents, and when they leave for vacation during the summer and fall, more volunteers are needed to lend a helping hand and pick up these crucial donations.
This is one of the busiest times of the year for the program, and drivers spend their time traveling to multiple stores, loading and unloading boxes of donations. It’s a rewarding way to give back to the local community and make a difference. Many volunteers are retired, and they enjoy this opportunity that gives them a sense of purpose, witnessing firsthand the difference their efforts and the food bank makes for their community.
For those interested in joining the volunteer team and making a difference, keep in mind volunteers can drive as little as one morning a week. Vans are provided and gas is covered, unless volunteers would rather use their personal truck or SUV. They should be able to lift about 40 pounds and have a valid license and insurance.
If you are interested in making a difference and volunteering, please call 480-488-1145 for more information.
