A local baseball coach in the Prescott area has earned a coveted spot.
Yavapai College Head Coach Ryan Cougill has been chosen to serve on the coaching staff for the USA Junior College National Baseball Team.
The school shared the news last Friday afternoon, explaining that Cougill will assist head coach Doug Wren of Tyler Junior College. Other assistants include Tyler’s Eddy McGuire and Sam Temple from Hinds Community College in Mississippi.
Historically, coaches who have enjoyed recent success, such as trips to the NJCAA World Series or national championship titles, are invited to serve on the coaching staff. Cougill certainly fits the bill, having led the Roughriders to their fourth national title back in 2016.
The NJCAA National Baseball team will play at the National Baseball Congress World Series later this summer. The 84th annual event will kick off August 1 and continue through August 11 in Wichita, Kansas. 26 players have made the cut, and they will aim to improve on their fourth place finish two years ago.
The team will start practice on July 25 in Texas at Tyler Junior College. Congrats Coach Cougill and good luck!
