OCT. 20 — GAYLE SHANKS, founder and co-owner of Changing Hands bookstores in Tempe and Phoenix, speaking on the challenges and merits of an independent bookstore, which opened in 1974, then moved to Mill Avenue in 1978 and to the southwest corner of Guadalupe and McClintock in 1998. In recent years, Changing Hands has opened a second bookstore in Phoenix. It is famous for the prominent writers and authors who give book talks and book signings. Pat Hatton will introduce her.
