International Bacon Day: Saturday, September 2nd

International Bacon Day: Saturday, September 2nd

According to, International Bacon Day or Bacon Day is an unofficial observance, often celebrated in the U.S. on the Saturday before Labor Day (the first Monday of September). Some cultures, however, celebrate on 19th of February, while others celebrate the day on the first Saturday in January after the new year.

Bacon day celebrations typically include social gatherings during which participants create and consume dishes containing bacon, including bacon-themed breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts, and drinks. Bacon Day gatherings may also include the consumption of soy bacon or turkey bacon.

Bacon Day was conceived in 2004 by a group of CU Boulder (Colorado) graduate students. Bacon Day in Manchester UK is celebrated by several students on the 14th January, prior to January examinations as a distraction from revision. Bucknell students are also known for their bacon day celebrations, calling themselves “Meatheads”, and gorging on as much bacon as possible.

Where can you get in on the bacon-fest? All four Valley locations of Snooze, an AM Eatery will be celebrating with a special menu of bacon-y food and drinks (full menu below). Not to mention, a social media contest offering Snooze fans a chance to win Tender Belly’s responsibly raised and delicious bacon, FREE FOR A WHOLE YEAR! Plus, Snooze will be donating 10 percent of that day’s pork-powered profits to support the nonprofit Slow Food USA, and its efforts to inspire individuals and communities to change the world through food that is good, clean and fair for all.

To enter Snooze’s International Bacon Day contest and win FREE Tender Belly Bacon for one year, write your love letter to bacon in a haiku or poem and post it on Facebook as a comment on their International Bacon Day post.   Four winners will be chosen for their ode to bacon and will win bacon for a year from Tender Belly, plus they also win a one year membership to Slow Food USA.
