Recreational shooters be aware- the main range of the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s flagship shooting facility in North Phoenix will be closed at the end of this month.
The temporary closure will last for two weeks from Monday, August 14 to Tuesday, August 29 as improvements to the facility are made. The Ben Avery Shooting Facility will receive upgrades such as refurbished shooting benches and raised backstops for shooting stations.
As one of the largest publicly operated shooting facilities in the nation, the 1650-acre range is a shooter’s paradise, earning a Five Star Rating from the National Association of Shooting Ranges. Serving as an example of a quality recreation experience, more than 120,000 shooters visit the range every year on average. While the closure may cause a minor inconvenience for some, it is important to keep the facility at it’s finest for the high volume of visitors.
Located at 4044 W. Black Canyon Blvd., the facility will reopen for it’s regular operating hours on Wednesday, August 30th.
During the closure, shooters can check out the Clay Target Center at 5060 W. Skeet Street
in Phoenix and stay up to date on information from the Department of Game and Fish here.
