Numero 28, located in East Village, is a one-stop shop for a fun night out! Whether you are doing a girls night, catching dinner before a late night flick, or just eating in your neighborhood, this spot is great. I tend to find myself here every few months due to the diversity of the pizzas and of course- the BYOB aspect of the restaurant. One thing that is amazing about New York City is that there are a lot of restaurants that you can bring your own wine/beer and even those that allow hard alcohol as well. Not only helping with the price at the end of the meal but also making it a more relaxing environment with not having to worry about what to share for the table and Numero 28 is one of them! The restaurant has a great ambiance and resembles a home-like feel with many pictures on the wall and an open kitchen in the back. When arriving, you can sit outside, have a window view, or in the regular dining area but I would recommend sitting out front if the weather is nice, as people watching is quite entertaining in the East Village.
Whenever I eat out, the appetizers are always my favorite part of a meal, it is the perfect introduction to if the experience is going to be up to par. Some of my favorites here at Numero 28 are:
Burrata– you cannot go wrong with a hunk of cheese and some bread!
Meatballs- great texture and not too saucy, so you can really taste
Prosciutto e bufala– I have a thing for cheese, so if it’s on the menu, I feel like it is my civic duty to try it out.
The pizzas, being quite diverse, are phenomenal! One of the best reasons to visit this place with a group is because you can order either a small, medium or large pizza and have the option of ordering up to three different types on one pizza. By being able to choose all different varieties of pizza, it allows you to try different types, as well as let people explore more than one pizza options. Displayed on a square pizza handle, the different pizzas are split up by sections. Some of my favorite pizzas are:
Numero 28 Pizza: A delicious pizza on their Special’s menu that has buffalo mozzarella, speck, truffle cream, and mushrooms. It is quite tasty and a great pizza if you are not in the mood for a red sauce pie.
Parma: Picture prosciutto, cherry tomatoes, arugula, cheese, and fiordilatte on a pizza crust- a great combination of sweet and salty.
Margherita Pizza: You can’t go wrong with a classic take on a Margherita pizza and at Numero 28, they do it quite well! It is the perfect amount of cheese and sauce topped on a tasty pizza crust for a filling and taste-bud satisfying experience.
The overall experience is one that you can’t be disappointed in! The food is great and the atmosphere exemplifies that. For the pasta’s, I have never tried them but have been meaning to and the same goes for the dessert! I might just have to plan another visit soon and give it a test!
