Hunger Free Alliance Plans For Summer Cafés

Looking to make a difference this summer? The Hunger Free Alliance of Greater Flagstaff is in need of volunteers to help with their Summer Cafés and make a difference.

The Summer Café program aims to keep kids fed and healthy even when school is out. Oftentimes, summer vacation means students who otherwise depend on school lunches are left without reliable sources of healthy food. With the Summer Cafés, children under the age of 18 can receive free breakfast and lunch at a variety of locations across Flagstaff and the surrounding area.

The program runs from June 3 to August 8, and volunteers are needed to help serve food as well as provide entertainment and fun activities for the kids. Food is free to any child under 18, and families do not need to show proof of income for their child. This year, five sites will offer $4 meals for parents to encourage parents or relatives to enjoy a meal alongside their kids.

Staff and volunteers from the Hunger Free Alliance are preparing for a kick-off event on Sunday, June 3 at Bow and Arrow Park (3701 N. Cochise Drive) from 2 to 5 p.m.
