A landmark, historic church in downtown Tempe has listed it’s land for sale, in a prime location just a few blocks east of the vibrant Mill Avenue Entertainment District.
The First Congregational Church sits at 101 E. 6th St. in the heart of Tempe, and it’s been a presence in the city for a significant amount of time, dating back to 1892.
The church sits on just under 1 acre of property, which is listed for sale by Cushman & Wakefield, with an asking price of $8.56 million.
The church land is being marketed toward buyers as a potential residential redevelopment in a prime location, with tens of thousands of ASU students nearby and hundreds of young professionals working in the area. Cushman & Wakefield is also involved in the development of The Circuit, a creative office space on S. River Drive that is currently under construction.
Downtown Tempe and it’s renowned Mill Avenue area are continuously evolving and expanding, with many new developments in the works, including retail space, offices, call centers, apartments and a biotechnology park on Tempe Town Lake.
The First Congregational Church is part of the United Church of Christ, and it first opened it’s doors for parishioners in the 1890s. Renovations followed and the current church building has been in place since 1953. If the land is sold, the church could be relocated to a new sight in a different part of town.
