Hiker Rescued From Sabino Canyon

Arizona has some of the best natural beauty for hiking, but rescue crews are always prepared in case of overheated or injured hikers. First responders were needed on Saturday morning after a woman who was hiking in Sabino Canyon, 15 miles northeast of Tucson, broke her ankle.

The 45-year-old woman was airlifted to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries. Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, she used her cell phone to call for help, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities say her call allowed crews to locate her along a much-visited trail and develop the best plan for airlifting her as temperatures soared over 100 degrees.

Local law enforcement officials remind hikers to be careful of the conditions and always be prepared in case of emergency. For more information, please visit the official website of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department HERE.
