High Schoolers Get Chance to Perform with Professional Guitarists

Northland Preparatory Academy has reason to celebrate, as five of their students have been selected to tour the state with the Arizona Guitar Orchestra and the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

Jake Mason, Cameron Jameson, Zane Koch, Tyler Davis and Colton Hibbert are the only high school students touring with these guitar performing groups, and last Friday night, they made their debut at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Flagstaff.

The Arizona Guitar Orchestra includes professional and college-level classical guitar players from throughout the state, and despite their younger age, these five students have made quite an impression. For four years, they have learned and practiced under the guidance of NPA guitar teacher Thomas Byers. They have quickly developed their skills and improved greatly. For their auditions, they played songs using sections from “By Chants,” a piece inspired by music from the Havasupai Tribe and written by Andrew York, a former member of the LA Guitar Quartet.

The five students earned their places in the ensemble, and they will travel to Tucson and Scottsdale for upcoming performances.
