The family of a New York City cab driver who went missing last month has been left heartbroken and distraught after his body was found.
The body of Yu Mein “Kenny” Chow was pulled from the East River last week. The beloved cab driver was last seen on May 11, and those close to him say he was dealing with financial trouble.
Chow was a driver with Yellow Cab, and his work vehicle was found a block from the East River in Manhattan. Nearly two weeks after his disappearance, his body was retrieved from the river on Wednesday, May 23.
According to his family, Chow was under financial stress due to a $700,000 loan on his medallion- the permit that allows a driver to use a yellow taxi in New York City.
The rise of app-based ride share services like Uber and Lyft has caused the value of medallions to decrease significantly.
