On Friday, September 30, 2016 the Queen Creek Schools Education Foundation held its 9th Annual Golf Tournament at Trilogy Golf Club at Power Ranch. The tournament started with a presentation of colors from students in the Queen Creek High JROTC program. After a flag salute and a brief moment of silence, 140 golfers took to the green for a great cause. In fact, this year the tournament was sold out!
Golfers were divided into threesomes and foursomes. Teams were a mix of QCUSD employees, business owners, and education leaders. Some golfers drove from other parts of the Valley to participate; other golfers even came from out of state! With players staggered across all 18 holes, the course took about four hours to complete. The top tournament prize went to the McCarthy team with a score of 50. The UES, Inc. team came in second with a score of 51. Both teams received their awards at a luncheon following the tournament.
Golfers also had the chance to enter a raffle to win prizes donated by local QC businesses. There was also a Silent Auction. Some of the items up for grabs included a beach cruiser bike, a Weber grill, and a Samsung TV. Together the tournament, course sponsorships, the auction and raffle raised $42,000; more than double what was raised last year. All the money collected will go towards three foundation scholarships for graduating seniors in spring 2017. Thanks to the many golfers and sponsors that helped make this a successful fundraiser!
