Did you know 80 percent of seniors in America are food insecure? March is National Nutrition Month and FSL operates two food pantries inside their affordable, multi-housing communities in Phoenix. Both food pantries are in need of support this month. They are asking the community for donations of nonperishable food, meats, dairy items, fresh produce and toiletries such as paper towels, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner and ride vouchers.
Donations can be dropped off at 29 Palms Apartments, located at 4901 E. Holly St, Phoenix, 85008, Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. or Roeser Senior Village, located at 454 E. Roeser Road, Phoenix, 85040, Monday’s, Wednesday and Friday’s from 10:00 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“Many of our senior clients are on fixed incomes and don’t have enough money left to purchase groceries each month,” said Alyssa Weist, community manager at 29 Palms Apartment Homes. “Seventy percent of our clients don’t have transportation or a family member to take them to a food bank or grocery store. Providing assistance to them each week relieves the stress and burden of them worrying how they are going to find their next meal.”
