As the weather warms up and days get longer, it’s no surprise that Arizonans are becoming even more active. However, increased activity brings an increased risk of injury for all ages. Whether golfing and swimming or enjoying a game of softball or soccer, unsuspecting participants eager to go all-in are putting themselves at risk for sore joints, strains and sprains, knee injuries, shin splints and fractures.
The vast majority of injuries occur when participants don’t engage in a proper warm up or stretching routine, or when the intensity of their workout surpasses their ability, causing abnormal stress on ligaments, tendons and muscles.
Dr. Hedley of Hedley Orthopaedic Institute has plenty of tips to help keep weekend warriors and amateur athletes competing at their best all season long.
He and a team of physicians are holding a FREE, interactive joint health seminar this Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel.
Attendees will hear from physicians from Hedley Orthopaedic Institute and Arizona Institute of Footcare Physicians about all aspects of hip, shoulder, knee and foot health, including:
• Different approaches to keeping your joints healthy; and
• The latest treatments and technologies for arthritis, including joint replacement procedures, robotic innovations and regenerative medicine.
The session will also have a question-and-answer period giving attendees an opportunity to ask a range of questions about joint health and injury prevention.
