First-time Candidate Vega Qualifies for Tempe City Council Ballot

By 8:31 am on Monday November 13, the Tempe City Clerk’s office accepted 3 times the number of required petition signatures for Genevieve Vega.  She is the first candidate to qualify for the March 2018 Tempe City Council ballot.

When asked how she collected so many signatures, Genevieve replied “It is important to me that my campaign is community centered and powered by people who deeply care about electing the right Candidates to our Tempe City Council. I’m incredibly grateful to my supporters and volunteers for providing their time to knock doors and provide resources in our neighborhoods.

Genevieve Vega hopes to continue her service to the City of Tempe by representing working families like her own.  A mom of a McClintock freshman and an Aguilar special needs second grader, Genevieve knows the challenges working families face.  “Tempe is the place we chose to raise our family.  We absolutely love it here!  I have my own consulting business and my husband works full time as an academic counselor at ASU, and we would not be where we are today without our education and hard work. However, with a small mortgage in student loan debt, combined with rising housing costs, after school care for our special needs daughter, and regular living expenses, we know how difficult it can be to raise a family in Tempe. I want to be a voice for families similar to mine who call Tempe their home.”

Genevieve is a long-time resident who Tempe voters may have seen knocking on their doors in years past advocating for school bond overrides, other candidates, and ballot initiatives.  Genevieve is currently serving her second Board term on the Tempe Community Council as one of her many passions is advocating for human services issues in Tempe.

A two-time Sun Devil, Genevieve holds a B.A. in Communication and recently earned her Executive MBA which motivated her to start her own business, engage in starting a software company, and allowed her the flexibility to run for Tempe City Council.

Because of Genevieve’s many years of service to Tempe, she’s proud to have the endorsements of Mayor Mark Mitchell, Councilmembers Randy Keating, Lauren Kuby, and David Schapira, former Councilmember Corey Woods.  She also has legislative endorsements from State Senators Sean Bowie and Juan Mendez, and Representatives Athena Salman and Isela Blanc. As well as support from many other Tempe leaders like Kate Hanley, TUHSD Board Member Berdetta Hodge, Jevin Hodge, The Honorable Jenny Norton, Austin Stumpf, and many others.

Please join Mayor Mitchell, Councilmembers Keating, Kuby, and Schapira, and Honorable Woods this Sunday, November 19 at Spokes on Southern at 4:30 pm as they host a fundraiser for the first candidate to make the March 2018 ballot.
