A terrifying sight outside a local elementary school in Tucson prompted a lockdown for students and staff.
Santa Clara Elementary School in the Sunnyside Unified School District was placed on lockdown on Thursday morning – the first day of the new school year. Police say the lockdown resulted from a man standing outside the school who cut himself with a machete.
Officials with the Tucson Police Department say no one else was injured in the incident, and no crime was actually committed.
Santa Clara Elementary School is located atĀ 6910 S. Santa Clara Avenue. Earlier information from TPD reported nearby Elvira Elementary School was under lockdown.
