Desert Vista Chooses Varsity Baseball and Girls’ Basketball Coaches

Desert Vista High School is recommending that Cody Brassfield be approved by the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board as the school’s 2017-18 head varsity baseball coach and Raymond Patche as the school’s 2017-2018 varsity girls’ basketball coach.

Boys Varsity Baseball Coach:

Cody Brassfield has been teaching and coaching baseball at Desert Vista High School for nine years.  Coach Brassfield played high school baseball at Red Mountain in Mesa, AZ (1993-96), for one year at Phoenix Community College (1996-97), and for three years at Kansas Wesleyan University (1998-2001).

At KWU he earned a bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and in 2015 he earned his master’s degree in Human Performance with an emphasis in coaching. After graduating college, Cody has spent three years working with youth as an athletic director at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix.  He also taught physical education at Eduprize Charter School in Gilbert.  During his time teaching at Eduprize, Cody began to volunteer coach at Desert Vista.  He has spent time coaching at all levels including, one year at varsity, two years at junior varsity and assisted at the freshman level. 

In 2008, Coach Brassfield was hired as a science teacher at Desert Vista and became the head freshman coach, preparing several young baseball players for the varsity level.  Coach Brassfield returned to the varsity level in 2014 as a hitting and outfielder’s coach.  In addition to working at Desert Vista in the classroom and on the baseball field, he has volunteered in the community with Little League, Pony League, and other camps/clinics to help the local baseball players improve. He has been a part of several successful seasons at Desert Vista in the last 12 years and plans on continuing the outstanding tradition and culture that surrounds the baseball program. 

Coach Brassfield has been married to his wife Janell for 13 years, and they have 3 children; Bryce (13), Clayton (10), and Brynlee (8).  He and his family love living in Ahwatukee, where his children enjoy participating in sports in their free time. Coach Brassfield is passionate about the game of baseball and helping young athletes become successful adults.  His goal is to have his players acquire skills in leadership, solution-centered thinking, and taking actions that enhances their physical, mental, social, and moral development.

“I am committed to guiding my players to the next level through with a focus on the core values of gratitude, responsibility, integrity, inspiration, toughness and trust,” states Coach Brassfield. “I am excited at the opportunity to be head baseball coach at Desert Vista and look forward to always striving to meet the high expectations and leadership required to be successful in a 6A high school division.”  

Girls Varsity Basketball Coach: 
Raymond Patche II is a native of Houston, Texas. He graduated from Arizona State University with Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Exercise and Sports Science. While attending ASU, Coach Patche volunteered for the Sun Devil’s girls’ basketball program and was selected for an internship under the Girl’s Head Basketball Coach Charlie Turner-Thorne.

During his tenure under Coach Turner-Thorne, Coach Patche was actively involved in many aspects of the program, including everything from recruiting to coaching. He provided scouting reports and ran scout teams for the Lady Devils. 

After graduating from ASU, Coach Patche embraced his love for exercise and became a self-employed personal trainer. He trains a variety of high school and collegiate athletes throughout the Valley. His focus is on the development of skills and understanding of the game. Coach Patche’s experiences include coaching in the All 4 Sports Organization, AAU and was recently an Assistant Boys Basketball coach in the Scottsdale Unified School District.
