Cornhole is a popular game that brings people together for a good time. That was certainly the case on June 15 and 16 as the third annual Arizona State Cornhole Championships took place in the valley.
The event was open to the public and players of all levels of experience and competition. Hosted by Ability360 Sports & Fitness in Phoenix, $4000 was raised to go toward their fantastic wheelchair basketball program. 220 players came to show off their cornhole skills over the weekend, with many competing in more than one event. 65 players took home a piece of the $5000 in cash and prizes that were handed out during the two days of competition and camaraderie.
This year, six new divisions joined in the fun for 11 total events. By the end of it all, there were 19 new Arizona State Champions and Doug Zafft was named the Arizona Player of the Year. Bill Hadley was named the state champion in advanced singles, while Ty Lopez came in 2nd and Zafft came in third.
