The public is invited to attend a special ceremony honoring an Arizona veteran who recently passed away.
The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services is inviting the community to join this effort, as sixty-year-old PFC. Jimmie Smith was homeless and had no family. They want to give him the burial and memorial service he deserves for his brave contributions to our country and our freedom.
PFC Smith will be laid to rest at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista on Thursday, July 27 at 11 a.m., and the hope is that the community will come together to attend the services as his family.
It should be a beautiful, meaningful sight as Patriot Guard Riders will escort PFC Smith’s urn to the Veterans Chapel at the cemetery, where Army Military Honors will take place. They will ensure our fallen veteran receives nothing less than dignity and respect at this memorial service and ceremony. The ceremony should last about fifteen minutes.
Anyone who arrives at the cemetery before the service should please use the staging area, making a clear path for the Patriot Guard Riders to get to the chapel.
Southern Arizona Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery is located at 1300 South Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635.
