Come Out and Play at Tempe’s Annual PlayDay Celebration

It’s that time of year we’ve all been waiting for, when we get to enjoy Tempe’s annual PlayDay! This free, all-ages community event celebrates activities and recreation for the entire family. In keeping with its designation as a Playful City USA community for the eighth consecutive year, Tempe will host a free day of play for kids of all ages to celebrate play and reap the benefits of being active. PlayDay is scheduled to occur from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Kiwanis Park, at Mill Ave. & Ash Ave.

Participants of PlayDay will have the opportunity to join-in on a variety of structured and unstructured games and events, including: youth sports activities, kayaking and boating, inflatables and more!

Diablo Dash
Visitors will once again enjoy the Diablo Dash at PlayDay. Sponsored by the Tempe Diablos, the Diablo Dash is a free, family-friendly obstacle course that will have you running, crawling, climbing, sliding and laughing all the way to the finish line!

Kid Zone Experience
The 2017 Kid Zone Experience provides the opportunity to try your hand at Angry Birds STEM Launch, Rubik Cubes, 3D STEM Pens, Make-Your-Own Geek Yogurt Dips, life-size board games and more – all activities representative of the Kid Zone Enrichment program.

Just for Kids Fishing Festival
Again this year, the city is proud to join forces with Anglers United and Arizona Game and Fish for the 26th annual Just for Kids Fishing Expo! Anglers of all ages are invited to the fire circle located on the west side of Kiwanis Lake between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to try their hand at fishing. Everything you need (poles, bait and a little guidance) will be provided at no cost during the event!

Touch-A-Truck
New this year, Tempe’s Public Works Department will bring the Touch-a-Truck event to PlayDay! Get up close and personal with several city vehicles, including fire, police, solid waste & recycling, transportation and more. Take pictures with police horses and learn all about the equipment that keeps the city moving.

Boat Concessionaire Celebration
Boat Rentals of America (BRA) will be celebrating the opening of their newest location at Kiwanis Park Lake. BRA provides pedal boats and kayaks, as well as tandem, cruiser and double surrey style bicycles to help you explore Kiwanis Lake and Park. They will be offering special pricing on the rentals during PlayDay.

KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting play in children’s lives, chose Tempe as a Playful City USA community. In the tenth year of the program, KaBOOM! named 257 cities and towns across the country – 16 of which are in Arizona – as Playful City USA honorees. Tempe was one of 22 communities given this designation for the eighth consecutive year because of the way it uses play and play spaces to positively impact childhood wellness, public safety and quality of life.
